I wondered if anybody had the opportunity to compare the Gift R3 with the R1 Release.

I saw that an online retailer has the R3 version fairly cheap. Is this perhaps a bootleg version?

Maybe on of you guys can help me?

Thx in advance.

Hi, I have both the r1 and the DTS r3 release and the DTS track is an improvement on the Dolby track contained on the r1. Only thing is the Picture is not 16/9 on the r3 but looks to be a non Animorphic rendering of the r1 transfer .I still personally prefer veiwing the r3 for the heightened impact the DTS track delivers to the film. Just remember that the r3 is released by universe and laser co.

Universe Video & Laser Company Limited distributes the R3 version of the Gift on DVD & VCD in Hong Kong.

The DVD does feature DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1, and stereo English soundtracks. The DTS 5.1 soundtrack is pretty good but it sounds about the same as the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.

There are a few things to note about this release...

Its non-anamorphic letterbox widescreen and not enhanced for 16:9 TVs.

The music video & interview featurette from the R1 release are not included.

The menus are pretty basic bilingual Chinese & English and the only extras are Chinese subtitled theatrical trailers.

The disc does have optional Chinese(traditional & simplified) subtitles.

Thanks Rutger and Brett. It's to bad the region 3 is not anamorphic.

The site who has the dvd states it is anamorphic. I understand from both of you it is not.

I think i am going to by the R1.

There is also a region 2 Dutch DTS anamorphic release, but it seems there are no retailers who sell it or even have it in stock.
