Brian,
Are you trying to be a smart A$$ ? :D
I meant HOLLLLLLLLLY! :)
Well lets see, I hooked her up free air of course just to
make sure everything is in working order.... Hmmmmmmmm
I think it has a "little" bit more excursion than the MB
10" had.. Lets put it this way... On Manheim SteamRollers
Christmas Special HDCD on Track 1 if I would have put a
quarter on the cone, well I would now have a quarter sized
hole through my ceiling..
This thing is going to MOVE some massive air! the excursion
is phenominal and the cone moves quick!
But still, I was running -16Db on the Receiver... :D
I think I may be one of the few guys here that when done
with the box and all simply does have too MUCH head room!
LOL
Wow this thing is gonna rip the walls apart :)
Now all I have to do is figgure out what I am going to
do about a box... Sealed or Ported... Ho Hum.....
Sealed...
More power handling... better cone control.... yeah me thinks
sealed is probably the best bet...
But I am open to opinions :)

Me? A smart ass? I resemble that remark! :)
BTW, sealed or ported comes down to your goals/preferences. Size, extension, etc. BTW, I'll have an AV12 with dual 15" Stryke PR's and the 380W amp assembled here in the shop within a few weeks.
I'll let you know how it turns out!

Here's the Pictures for all you waiting for the beast to
arrive...

Enjoy!
Brian,
Yes please let me know how the dual PR 380W turns out..
For me I am going to use it a lot for music so I am
going to go sealed for better control and power handling.
I need to take a week or two and run some sims.. I won't
be able to work on the box right away anyway.

Can you do me a favor and measure the cutout dimension and the outside flange diameter? I have been unable to get it.

Pete,
Mounting diameter is 11" and the total diameter is 12-11/16" with a mounting depth of 5-5/8" and figure a volume displacement of about 4 liters.

Hey Fellas,

I can't get over this woofer! I sat on the floor this
morning beside my HT, and I ran a 15-80 Hz Sweep that I
burned to a CD-R. With my Bass Peak Limiter Off... Volume
at Reference and the amps gain at 75% this thing never
exceeded X-Max! That's free air with not much cone control
other than what the surround is doing...

At Fs the thing wanted to jump off the floor (infact it was
hopping up and down...) the only time I have seen this much
excursion was on Eclipse Titaniums! (Granted I don't go to
DB Drags or anything like that)

I have a feeling I am going to be giddy like a school girl
when I decide on an enclosure and get this thing into the
box... Infact I have a feeling I am going to be redoing
spackle work on the walls!

John,

This is ONE HELL of a driver! And cheap too!

I can only imagine what the AV-15 is going to be like!

Brett,
Glad you love the woofer! Be careful running sweeps through the woofer free air, as you know it doesn't take much to send it past xmax that way. I know you know what you're doing but I'm posting my caveat for others to see :)

Kyle,

Ohh yeah it's like reving a high performance car engine
in neutral.. Free air doesn't offer much control of the
cone. I had my finger on the gain just in case...

I never came close to X-Max (well okay I may have been
close but the thing is insane... just watching the excursion
is crazy)

And the motor structure is powerful, the cone has very fast
transient response from what I can tell, I think I am going
to have a very musical sub on my hands when it's in the
right sealed enclosure.

Cam,
Here are the T/S Params for the AV-12
------------------------------------------
Fs: 21Hz
Qms: 4.41
Qes: .399
Qts: .366
Vas: 88 L
Re: 2.97 ohm
Z: 4 ohm
BL: 15 Tm
Cms: .25 mm/N
Mms: 228 g
Pe: 500W
1W/1m: 85.5dB
2.83V: 89.5dB
Xmax: 23 mm
Xsus: 30 mm
Sd: 498 sq cm
Vd: 2.33 L
-----------------------------------------------
From the sims I ran a while back in Win ISD Pro it seems
to work well either way. Go ahead and mess with the numbers
and see what you come up with. EBP Comes out to 52.6
so either way it's going to work well.
As for the cost, this driver is suposed to sell for $179.00
John still has the Pre Order Price up on the web site of
$140.00 I am not sure if that price is still valid, it may
be..
Even at $180.00 this is still a very well constructed driver.

Geoff,
I never said I could make the MB-Q work it was just a test.
A test that I didn't loose any money on :) Actually I wish
I could have bought more of those MB-Q's because I could
have resold them on Ebay for 2X what I paid.. =)
Excursion is a goood thing! And this thing beast has plenty
of it!
I honestly can't wait to get the enclosure done, but it's
going to have to wait untill after the holidays because a
friend said he would do all the cutting for me on his table
saw (and all the dado work as well) since I don't have a
table saw...
I am undecided on how I want to mount the driver though...
I thought about downfiring... But the more I look at the
driver the more I want to see it everyday, sidefiring would
work, but I want to make the enclosure a vertical rectangular
shape and that would look sort of odd with a side firing sub..
Ohh hell I don't know... I really need to think it over :)

Okay here's what I come up with...

In a 1 Cubic Foot Sealed Enclosure with 300 watts input
power I get 98.032Db @ 19.98 Hz with 23.911 Mm's of Excursion.

Highest output occours at 100Hz with 111 Db of output and
less than 5mm's of excursion.

I am going to tweak around some more and see what I come up
with..

In a 63.8 Liter Vented box tuned to 19Hz with a 4" Dia by
38" long Vent with 200 watts power it yeilds around 106.5
DB @ 20Hz and is well within x-max
