Hmm....
.5 Cubic Foot Enclosure
500 Watts Power
Sealed
Excursion never exceedes 19mm
Highest Output = 112DB @ 62Hz
93DB @ 20Hz
101 @ 30Hz
Dang, that almost sounds like a sunfire sub well okay the
output isn't quite that high, but it's not like we're sending
1Kw to the sub either :)

Wow, this really looks like an excellent sub, reminiscent of the audiomobile EVO-R in some ways. Visually it's outstanding. My only concern is that when I model it in winisd it's about 2 db or 3 db less sensitive than the shiva and titanic mkII so it, of course, shows less SPL on the modeling programs. I could really see myself ordering the AV12 rather than the titanic mkII I had been planning on if I can somehow be convinced that the sensitivty difference between the two drivers won't have a significant effect.

Does anyone know if WinISD takes Room Gain into effect?
I guess it would be sort of "Gerneralized" anyway since
room gain can vary from the slightest positioning changes.

I suffice it to say that I should be making well over 100
DB at 20Hz with no sweat (room gain included) it's not a
115DB sub in a sealed box but I could easily see those
numbers with 2 18" PR's in the right box..

I think 100-107DB would be more than adequate for me..

I still can't get over the .5 cubic foot deal, you would
think that would be far too small but it seems to like that
number more than 3-4 cubic feet.

Brett,

Don't fixate on enclosure size (or lack thereof) so much. Pay careful attention to the Qtc of a closed box. If accuracy is important, shoot for something with a Qtc between .5-.6 or so.

Brian,
Ohh I know I was keeping an eye on QTC also, I just didn't
post that spec.. :)
I am not decided on any enclosure size that's why I am just
playing with the numbers right now. In an ideal world the
smallest enclosure would be nice. But I do want good output
too.
It seems like the larger the displacement the less cone
control it has the more eexcursion and then I run once again
into over excursion problems.

"In a 63.8 Liter Vented box tuned to 19Hz with a 4" Dia by
38" long Vent with 200 watts power it yeilds around 106.5
DB @ 20Hz and is well within x-max"

Are you serious?? It can seriously ne ported into that small of a box?? Though I'm not too sure how you would fit a 38" port in there though. Hmmmmmm

Cam,

Nah ignore my earlier posts I was at work on midnight shift
I think I screwed up somewhere....

This latest post has everything right.. If you want me to
run a ported sim just tell me what amount of power you are
going to feed it and I will see what the results are.

Brett. I have a Shiva in a 100L ported box using the full length Adire FP4 port. It's tuned to about 21-23hz. I'm using the AVA250 amp. Would the AV12 be an upgrade and would it work in that box?

Got mine also. Extremely impressive build quality, very nice woof. I kinda like 95L with two of my Lambda 15PR1400's which tune just below 20Hz. With 720 watts from the Hypex amp, looks like a real winner.

Cam,

Okay,

In a 100L vented enclosure with 250 watts power tuned to
23.29Hz with one 4" Diameter x 14.84" long port (12.62 inch
squared cross section) this is what I get...

Your peak excursions will take place at 28-29Hz and the
excursion is in the 23.400mm range.. that's slightly past
the X-Max but no where near the X-Lim (30mm)running less
power will of course lower the excursion, it just doesn't need that much power in this vented setup. Damage excursion
occours at 17.40Hz the driver will extend past 30mm and
that is the damage range for the mechanical suspension.

SPL's are as follows:

109.5DB @ 20Hz

111.5DB @ 30Hz

111.3DB @ 40Hz

111.4DB @ 50Hz

111.5DB @ 60Hz

All these figures are at 250W @ 1Meter

As far as the excursion goes, that amp isn't going to drive
the sub at 250w all the time so if you do these specs at
say 100w it's well within excursion limits no problem and
the output is still high.

I wasn't sure what Adire's FP4 port was so I just let WinISD
Pro pick the appropriate round port diameter and length.

Lemme know if you would like me to run anything else.

Geez, that looks really good, how does it compare to the Shiva in the same box configuration??

Cam,
Post the T/S for the Shiva and I will run a sim.. I don't
have the specs handy... Also what is the exact dimensions
of your port, I can re run the sim with your exact port
because I wasn't sure what it was.
Ohh and here's a 3D Rendering of what my Sub box "Might"
look like.. I am messing around with designs in Metatools
Bryce 3D.
Of course it won't be this color, it will be Black Ash.

Brett - nice chrome floor, showoff! ;)
I did a bunch of renderings for my upcoming Tempest project, you can take a look at em at my site under the 'sub' page if you're interested. Oh, mine were done in 3DS max, but maybe I'll fiddle with another prog for some different looks.

Owen,
Nice renderings... They all look great! :)
I need to get busy and model my amp and AV-12 now so I can
Build my box, Before I actually build it! :)

Owen,
I just thought I would share some of my other "Audio"
related 3D work with ya...
Here is a Bi-Polar Full Range Tower I rendered

And here are some speaker cables I rendered

Here are the specs for the Shiva
and the FP4 port is about 15-16" long I think. The Adire site says the tube length is 12" not including the twin flared ends.

Cam,

In the same 100L Vented Enclosure tuned to the same frequency
as the other post above with the same 250W with the same
Peort diameter and length the sub shows 106.4 DB @ 20Hz 1 meter
but it overtravels it's excursion big time at 34Hz the
excursion is nearly 30mm.

At any rate it looks like it's a few Decibels down from
the AV12 in the 20Hz range and about dead even from there
up...

Hmm, so I guess it isn't THAT much of an upgrade. So why is this sub better than the Shiva?
