Help - is this problem my TVs fault or the DVDs? (1 Viewer)

I have a Panasonic 53 inch HDTV, and when I watch DVDs, peoples hair look pretty bad, mainly the people with darker hair. The hair looks all bright, smeared, and undetailed.

Is this because something is wrong with my TV, or is it because the transfer of the DVD isn't good?

Here are some examples from DVDs I watched:

The Good Girl - Jake's hair in some scenes
Mr. Deeds - Everyone with black hair. During the tennis playing scene it's very noticeable
Back To the Future - In a few scenes Michael J Fox's hair.

Is your TV calibrated by yourself or professionally done?

Attempt one or the other first ...

I want to point out that sometimes the hair doesn't look odd all the time. Just during certain scenes in some DVDs.

I also have a Panasonic 53" TV but did not notice this. I haven't watched The Good Girl or Mr. Deeds, but I will re-watch Back to the Future and pay better attention. Any ideas which scenes I could look out for?

Mainly during close up shots of Michael J Fox's hair. For example, when the principle lectures him in the beginning.

I just watched The Matrix and did not notice this problem.
