I have the hd 570s and think they are great. I use them at work for hours at a time on a computer and cassette recorder without any problems. I also use them at home with a receiver for movies, music and games. They are $100 at J & R music.

I have the 580's and they are the best headphones I have heard and worn. they are very comfortable. I tried them in my sony discman and had no trouble powering them to moderate volume. I'm sure they will sound better with an external headphone amp but it is certainly not required for excellent sound. My Yamaha receiver makes them sound even better. Don't worry about the headphone amp thing.
