As the thread title says, I got "Full House" S1 for V-Day. I know why my girlfriend got it for me, We get a kick out of watching it on Nick at Nite sometimes, but just because it's a "It's so bad, it's good" kind of thing and there's a big goof factor to it (Uncle Jessie's mullet in then first season being a big favorite).

Now, she claims that she could not find anything on my DVD wish list (except for one other title that she got me) I suspect that she might not have been telling the truth as I see all the things on the wish list at Best Buy all the time and she claims she could not find anything else. (Jesus, I must be drunk) I suspect that she secretly wants it herself (there are certiain titles which I see plenty of copies there all the time)

But the major question is... If I keep this set and integrate it into my collection, am I so lame that there is no turning back?

Maybe this topic could be the start of a new survey:

"What titles are in your collection for the sole purpose of reducing the number of times you hear 'Not tonight...I have a headache'" ?

Of course, after being forced to watch "Full House", you yourself may need to literally use the "Not tonight...I have a headache" excuse. :D

Man, I just bought a copy of Full House for my wife yesterday. It's an all right show to me, not one of my immense faves, but I don't feel lame buying it. I bought it for her because I love her. There's a lot of shit in my massive collection that, if I were single, I would never ever own. But it goes back to calling it "my massive collection". It's really "our massive collection": mine, hers, and our son's. Noone's gonna say anything anyway, but even if they do just shrug and say "she bought it" and don't elaborate. It's no big deal, guy.

There have been posts like this all the time in the HTF's film section; I think this is a first for the relatively new TV section! :D

Go back an re-read what you wrote: "We get a kick out of watching it..." Maybe her "real" gift to you is to try to find a way for you and her to do more things together and for her to get that same special feeling of closeness she gets from you during these times you watch it together. For my wife and I, it's ER. Watching ER on DVD together is very special somehow. We discovered this during the S1 release, and it strengthened during S2's release. When I posted S3 news recently, she and I looked into each other's eyes so deeply and with such warmth because we were glad to know that these nights were coming up again. What nights? Well, whenever she would get home from work (her work shift ends a couple of hours later than mine, near or at the time our son goes to bed), we would try to squeeze in an ep of ER as much as we could before our own bedtime. We'd make popcorn, snuggle up on the couch, really get into it. For some reason it's an event for us. We feel close.

Your GF's real gift this Valentine's Day is this "lame" signal that she wants to feel closer to you. Depending on how you feel about her in return, you should decide how to respond. Think about it. Good luck!

Hey, I'd already have Full House for my own enjoyment if I hadn't blown my money on Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and a couple of James Bond novels! I'm going to try to pick up Full House, Degrassi Jr. High and Miami Vice before next Tuesday when the prices on the latter two go up.

I appreciate the analysis, but our relationship is pretty solid so I'm not sure that's the answer. Besides, she gets annoyed at me anyway for all time I spend watching DVDs and making her watch things that she isn't necessairly as enthusiastic about as I am (She was recent very weary from The "Return of the King" EE.) I'm actually always the one pleading "But I Love this movie/show and I want to watch it with you"

No offense to anyone who likes the show, but when I was presented with the gift I couldn't help thinking how ripped apart I would get if one of my friends saw it on my shelf.

Break up with her. ;)

You said that you watch it together on Nick at Nite. Perhaps she meant it as a sentimental gift, for both of you to watch together.

There be no shame in buying Full House for yourself. :) I bought the six Warner Brothers titles that came out, because the shows are staples of American television and they stand the test of time. "Baby Balooga."

Really, Will, your out is right there in the thread title. If anyone gives you grief, just tell them the truth. Most guys will nod understandingly. Those that don't, you can rag 'em right back because they obviously have never HAD a girlfriend!! ;)

I do have to say, however, that in my personal dictionary, one of the entries for the word "lame" is "A Miller/Boyett Production" :D

That's why I'm hiding mine. I will admit (within the safety of this confessional only) that I have ordered myself a copy but I'm afraid I can't be putting it out on the shelf for all to see. People just wouldn't understand :b.

I'm not sure I understand this now. If you can't be proud of every title you have on your shelf, what's the point of even being into this hobby? I don't know, I've always thought that 'secret' titles and 'hidden' titles were for people who picked up a dvd every once in a while, not for enthusiast who can/will defend their collections until the end.

But I guess, that's just me.

If someone laughs say you just got it for the Growing Pains episode on the bonus disc, that would be my reason for purchasing it and if you find Full House embarrassing Growing Pains is a stronger nostalgia program with a wider appeal.

I'm not so sure, people will always have their guilty pleasures, but might want to keep secret. This might be reaching, but if you had any porn DVDs, I can't imagine you would display them proudly on your shelf.

If it's a 2-disc set it will on the back of the package. If it's a 4-disc set it's inside the outer box.

I knew the porn thing was coming, it goes like this, Porn is subject that some will actually find offensive and morally wrong to display, also if kids come over and porn is on display then that's a whole nother' story. Removing Full House simply to not get rediculed by your friends is a whole nother story. You like what you like, eventually they will find out anyway. It sounds like a lot of people are actually the types that would make fun of someone with Full House in their collection, therefore being afraid to display it themselves. Just what I gather.

I plan on getting "Full House" very soon. For me, it's a nostalgia thing. Growing up, I remember watching ABC's 'TGIF' lineup on Friday nights which included "Full House", "Family Matters" and "Perfect Strangers". Sure, it wasn't the greatest show, but I still find myself watching re-runs from time to time. To me, like many other shows, it's a piece of my youth and I'd be glad to own it, as well as display it on my shelf. :)

Ask your GF to get you Season 2 when it comes out - that's when Lori Loughlin joins the cast. ;)

Awww that's sweet she bought that for you.

It really is the thought that counts, and she bought you something both of you can share together :emoji_thumbsup:

I don't get why people are embarassed to admit they like this show. It's not that bad of a show ;)
