I was wondering about the height of the front R L and centre speakers. (JBL satellites from JBL SCS135SI set of 5sats and a sub)

How important is it to have all three at the same height? How high is right?

The average height of the listener when sitting is about 41", the bottom of the centre speaker sitting on the tv would be at 43".

I saw two speaker stands for the L and R. The first would have the bottom of the L and R at about 36" and are made with pegs that fit right into the speakers to secure them. The stand is $50.

The other stands are adjustable up to 48", but don't have anything to secure the speakers, they just rest on the stand, they are $100.

So is it important enough to get the speakers the same height to warrant the more expensive stands?

Honestly, there won't be much difference between the two. It is probably even better to go with the cheaper ones since they actually secure the speakers. The thing that will help the most is: Angling the center speaker downward so the sound is directed towards the listening area.
