The server was down most of this am due to heavy traffic relating to a review that Ron has up on the extended release of LOTR. We hopefully have this problem resolved.
We're being "Slashdotted" They posted a link to the review on Slashdot and hundreds of computer nerds try and view the story at the same time, bringing the server to its knees.
If Parker started this thread, why am I seeing Ron's post before Parker's? Ron's post entered at 12:47 p.m. yesterday (10/18) looks like a reply to Parker's post entered at 1:25 p.m. yesterday.
If Slashdot generates that much traffic to bring other web sites to their knees, what on earth does Slashdot have for servers to avoid being slashdotted themselves?

I didn't even connect the downtime with the slashdot effect. I was on Slashdot, saw the article linking to the review and thought to myself that I had already read the review and just kept going. Never really put 2 + 2 together.
This is the first time one of my regular sites has ever been slashdotted.
