They've been mentioned, but my favorites are Branagh's Henry V and either Olivier's or Loncraine/McKellen's Richard III.
Branagh's "Much Ado About Nothing" will probably always be my favorite Shakespeare adaptation with Keanu Reeves.
BTW, A Simple Plan is just another variation on Chaucer's Pardoner's Tale from The Canterbury Tales. This is also the basic outline for most noirs and just about every Elmore Leonard crime novel. :)
