Hey Guys,

I was pretty much set on buying the Epson 3020 but then saw this 8350 which is only 2D (which isn't a big deal, 3020 is 2D/3D) has 50,000:1 contrast ratio(3020 is 40,000:1), has 300 less lumens at 2000 lumens than the 3020 (2300 lumens). The price however is around 900 while the 3020 is 1400 so I am a little double minded. Do I save the money and still have the higher contract ratio or go for more lumens with less contrast ratio? The room is in the basement and will be pretty dark.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you read any of the detailed reviews of the projectors on www.projectorreviews.com and www.projectorcentral.com ?

The important thing is to find out what sort of contrast/brightness you get from the projectors AFTER calibration. These reviews will tell you. The numbers on the box (like with so many other HT hardware) are NEVER indicative of "real world" results.

As far as the debate between DLP and LCD, what have your EYES convinced you of? In the end, make a decision because it's truly what YOU prefer, not because it's what others prefer. You owe it to yourself to experience both to make an informed decision.

Good point. I have seen both but not side by side. And they both look great to me. If only a store could give a side by side Demo that would be a true comparison

I recommend the 5030 unit as entry level, good blacks, quality optics, adjustable convergence, very flexible room placement due to horizontal and vertical lense shift.

I've also got the 5030 and love it. I know that's probably a little pricier than the models you mentioned, but just wanted to throw it out there that I'm another satisfied customer.

W1070 and Epson 3020. Epson definitely have brighter colors and better picture during the day. The walls kinda off whitish though. I'll have to check at night in the dark.

After some adjustments the image is holding up to the 3020. And for half the price. I will be getting the ht1075 which Is 2200 lumens so a little brighter than w1070. The Epson definitely has better features like 2d-3d conversion and looks better for sure. Also comes with 2 3d glasses. Also seems more robust. The auto keystone is awesome, not in the benq. For the price though the benq is definitely at par in terms of picture quality.
