Hello to all,
I just purchased a new Panasonic wide screen HD Tv last week. I already have digital cable through my cable subscriber. The service man just left after he installed the new cable box that has the HD tuner in it so that I can get the HD programs offered by my cable service. Both the tv and the cable box have DVI connections. Right now i am using the component connections. Should i be using the DVI connections? Is DVI better than the components connections?
thanks
Sam

DVI might be marginally better if you have a digital display device, e.g. LCD, plasma, DLP. On a CRT based set it's unlikely to make much difference.

Also, even though the cable box has a DVI connector, there's no guarantee that the firmware on it has it turned on yet.

if possible, go with the dvi connection.

in theory, it's a better signal since it's all digital. i have my dvd player hooked up via dvi to my tv and it looks wonderful - much brigher then component. for me, it was worth it.

heck, at the very least, test to see for yourself. just make sure you can return the cable.

On a CRT set though, all you are doing is moving the D->A conversion a few feet from your STB to the TV. Not likely to change things much.

Difference in brightness can be compensated for by the contrast/brightness controls.

why crank up the brightness on your tv higher then you need to? also, it wasn't just the brightness that was better. the picture was better too.

i'll say it again, try for yourself and see if you see a difference.
