DVD plays only in B+W (1 Viewer)

Hi, had a question. My friend bought a concert DVD by the band Love in Germany. When watching it on my relatively new DVD player it would only play in black and white not color. He had watched it on his "old" player at his house and it played fine in color. Any ideas why he could play it fine and I could not? My system is a Philips MX 1015D player/receiver/surround. I know there's region issues but why would it not affect his? thanks.

Is your DVD hooked up via the component outputs? I had the same issue when I first installed my DVD/VHS combo player onto my 27" Panasonic TV and found that the component cable jacks were not totally screwed in tightly to the cables. Once I screwed them all down and made sure the cables were pressed tightly into the inputs, the problem was solved.

I had the same thing happen once. Seems I had moved the receiver and the S-Video cable had loosened up.

i think i found out it was a PAL issue and i had to adjust the settings in my player. thanks.
