DVD Player stops (1 Viewer)

I'm tired of my DVD player stopping (freezing). Watching a movie last it stopped 5 times, just froze the picture.
Sometimes I can slap it and it will start back, other times it will not open or even shut down. The disk look ok.
At first it would have a broken screen and most times I could fast forward then play again but now it just freezes.
Now i'm in the market for a new player that don't freeze.
$200-$300 price range.
What's the best one guys?

Applying the sledgehammer approach rarely solves matters with delicate electronic components.

You might also supply some information, such as the make and model of the player. How old is the unit, how often does it get played, and what is the general condition of the discs you play in the thing? All these factors come into play.

After reading the reviews of the Panasonic RV-31, which I have, I see everyone is having the same problem.
I'll just but another brand.
Suggestions?
