DVD-A / SACD overlap? (1 Viewer)

I am trying to decide whether to get the Pioneer DV-47A (SACD and DVD-A) or the Sony SCD-555ES (SACD only). I'm wondering if there is much advantage to being able to play both formats. I have not looked too carefully at the current releases on DVD-A and SACD but am I effectively doubling the number of titles I can play if I get the Pioneer? Or are there many releases that are in both DVD-A and SACD formats? From what I've seen, most of the releases seem different. I'd appreciate any advice on the matter.

Dzung, Telarc has one or two titles available in both formats, but otherwise, there is no overlap. If you buy the '47A, you will obviously open yourself up to more high-resolution titles than if you buy the 'C555ES, but you will not double your selection in buying the former. There are far more titles available on SACD than DVD-Audio. If I were you, I would look over the selection of DVD-Audio titles to see if there are enough that interest you and then wait for reviews on the audio quality of the '47A. SACD has a broad selection of titles and the 'C555ES is a great component for the money, in my opinion.

Thanks for your reply Keith. I am anxiously waiting to see how the Pioneer fares in reviews. I don't see too much that I need on DVD-A right now but it will only take one or two releases to make me want to support the format. Of course, most DVD-As do have a DD5.1 track I guess but that seems to offer little solace. Another factor is that I am confident that mods will be available at some point to improve the Pioneer if it does end up to be unsatisfying in its stock form. On the other hand, it might be nice to have a cd changer.

Dzung, you make good points in support of the '47A and 'C555ES. Hopefully the '47A will be widely available soon to help you make decision. I am sure someone will be offering mods. to the '47A before too long.
