Does the Xbox play CD's right out of the box? Mine doesn't! (1 Viewer)

Do you need the remote to play CD's or do I have to take my Xbox back? I've tried 3 different CD's and it doesn't recognize them?

It will play CD's without the remote, but will not recognize CD-r's. (at least the brands I know of - there may be some that work)
