I'm considering buying a recordable DVD player and was wondering if the Malata will be compatible with those types of discs.

should be. Hong Kong players, despite their flaws tend to play the most variety of formats

I can confirm that DVD-R plays just fine, have tried a large number and several different brands made with my Panasonic E20 and a couple made on a friends Pioneer A03 drive. Have not tried the DVD-RW or DVD+RW. I can also confirm that DVD-RAM will not play on the Malata.

Not all Chinese players will play DVD-R. My Apex A600 will not play them.

My Apex 600A will at least play DVD-R for professional authoring. I have several DVD-R burned checkdiscs :)

Thanks for the responses. Glad to hear the Malata plays DVD-R. Hopefully someone can verify that it also plays DVD-RW as well.
