I am seeking to upgrade to progressive scan for my new 42" 16:9 format plasma TV. The Panasonic RP91 and Denon 1600 are my final 2 contestants. If the Denon 1600 can scale anamorphic DVDs for the 16:9 screen, I will go with it over the Panny. Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark,

The 1600 DOES NOT scale. The current Faroudja DCDI chip it has does not allow this. It is a double-edged sword since the 1600 generally has better video quality with a better de-interlacer than the RP-91, and the 1600 also has Burr-Brown DAC's for analog audio re-production with a low-pass filter to the subwoofer. I have one and it is a great all around player for the money, but if scaling is more important to you than anything else, then go for the RP-91 -It is still a great player for the money.
