I'd like to copy some of my old LDs onto DVD using my new DVD burner, but as most of the titles run 2 hours-plus, I was wondering if you can buy dual layer blanks.
There are currently no dual-layer DVD-R or DVD+R discs. Phillips, I believe, is coming out with dual-layer DVD+R discs this spring, but these will require a new burner. I think there will be standalone recorders to go along with the discs.
I am not aware of any effort to bring dual-layer DVD-R discs and burners to market; hopefully I'm wrong.
I'm in the same position as you are; a lot of 2+ hour long LDs I want to record. I record to two discs to maintain quality but it sure would be convenient to only require one.
Do you really think they will bother with Dual layer? I would think they would just say @#$@#$ it, and the next step is Blue-Ray. That is what is going on in Japan.
