I have two yr. 2000 Panasonic DVD players, and I've never had trouble with any discs, and I don't think I'll ever have a problem. SO why is there still a worry about firmware updates to relatively new DVD players?

I have a 3 year old Sony tht is still going strong. The only thing is that it won't pass DTS. Other than that this workhorse DVD player has given me no problems.

Firmware updates are infrequent for most any player. You only need them when you notice a problem. I've only noticed a problem with 1 disc on my oldest player. Largely newer players are going to be solid from the get-go unless someone introduces a spiffy new feature on a DVD.

I think the DVD standard is finished, there shouldn't be any additional features. Therefor a DVD player shouldn't need any updates.
