Just saw it for the first time last night on my EX system and I loved it! Great sound and picture, and I liked the story! We will be buying the CE addition.

Hey Ron :)
I have a JVC-721BK (723-GD in black) and when watching this movie, I scanned several chapters and the film mode light was always flashing off and on, just like on 'Titanic' or 'Unbreakable'.
It still looked pretty good, it just had a slight 'shimmer' to the image, which was eliminated by locking it into film mode. I am pretty sure that your player uses the same chipset as mine -although I could be wrong.
This was the CE by the way, but I don't think that matters. The transfers look to be identical between the SE and the CE.

A few comments the folks who answered my posts! :)
Ken, you said--
No argument there! An extra 20-30 minutes would have been a good thing for the movie and would have fleshed things out more.
I absolutely agree here! ;) Better fleshing out of the various characters at the beginning of the movie would definitely help; I think if Milo had given that full speech giving his reasons for going after Rourke and some careful additions and subtractions footage in the climax, it would really help the movie!
I'm still hoping one of these days they'll do an IMAX version.

I just finished watching this with my son. Excellent movie and even better transfer and sound. Very nice use of the surrounds. I too wish it was 20-30 minutes longer with more detail into the characters. It seemed a little short but good nonetheless. Hard to believe it did so bad at the theaters.

Ron-P and Sean ONeil:
On my JVC the progressive indicator light stayed green all through the film on the first viewing. I was concerned about what would happen with this dvd as it's a direct digital to digital transfer and I didn't know if this meant it would be 24fps or 30fps, and our JVCs are reputed to not do a good job of de-interlacing video-based material When I turned on the "Visual Commentary" feature for my second veiwing, it stays red most of the time.
I didn't notice the shimmering, but wasn't looking for it. I did force it into film mode and to my casual eyes it looked the same. Will try again tonight to see if it shimmers.

I suppose it is possible that my experience was unique as far as the film not locking into 'film' mode. But on my unit, the little light was flashing away -off and on :)
I'll have to try it again, or maybe my player is buggy?
Ah, whatever :) If it looks good to you, then that's all that matters! Seems like everyone is liking this movie, at least moderately. Have not seen one (really) bad review yet. :emoji_thumbsup:

Well Sean, your experience was not unique.
Poped her back in last night and sure enough, the red light came on in spots. So, I locked the player in 'film' mode which fixed the problem. But, I was unable to see any difference in picture quality.
Peace Out~:D

My short short review: Terrific film. Great animation. Thunderous soundtrack. Kept a good pace. Highly recommended. :)
Downside: Edge Enhancement distracting. :frowning:

My tiny gripe with the film was that it was trying not to be a typical Disney movie (ie no singing or talking animals), yet they added characters like Mole, the 6 year old (maybe not 6, but she sure looked young) ship's mechanic, Cookie, and the grouchy communications officer (didnt she smoke??) who are very much typical Disney characters. I got the CE at the Disney store yesterday but have yet to watch it. The ability to watch the 2nd disc in the 3 modes sounds really cool. I also think the ending was rushed as well. I liked the design of the Ulysses and was kinda irked that they didnt put out any toys or models of it :frowning:. Reminded me of a cross between the Cygnus and the Nautilus. Cheers.

A quick comment --
I just bought the two-disc special edition sight-unseen and was pleasantly surprised. The dialogue was some of the best that any animated Disney film has produced in years. It's one of those movies that I know I will laugh at things that I didn't catch the first or second time. I especially loved the Italian explosives specialist -- his character was an absolute riot! The picture, sound, and animation were also exceptional.
In short, ... I'm glad I bought it.

On the extras disk, you can either pick and choose what you want to see, or "play all", which puts everything into a comprehensive 2 hour documentary (which was the best I've seen on a Disney DVD). Absolutely fantastic disk. Had our new DD system cranked for some major rumblage last night.

I bought the Collector's Edition and saw this yesterday and I can only say that it is a great movie to watch.

Very nice animation and a very good soundtrack (dts) makes this 2-disc set a musthave !!!

I am a bit dissapointed though about the inlay saying there is a new Atlantis movie coming.

Disney's direct-to-dvd policy is getting a bit boring.

Why don't they release The Rescuers and Sleeping Beauty instead.

I watched my Coll Ed tonight, a really good flick, you could make comparisions to Titan AE,It felt similar ( I Liked Titan AE Too) but it was a bit more fun, with alot of clever dialog. It had no cute animals and no Songs, and maybe that's why it was a box office dissapointment, but I like Disney's try at adult animation. It's too bad americans don't relize , unlike the Japanese, that animation can be a good story telling mode.
