Ok I'm thinking of getting DirecTV cause cable is crazily priced where I'm at.

Anybody know of any sites that explain all the details of Directv?

Do you have to have the receiver plugged into the phone jack?

Is it easy to install personally? I'm a Techy.

You can gohere and read up. I'm on a second line from my landlords dish. All equipment is leased which means they do the installation, service and repair. So far it's payed off as in the last year we've had the dish replaced twice, the receivers 3 times. Some places like Radio Shack are giving away free dishes with a one year commitment.

It's not rocket science and being a techy will help you understand how it works. Can you work a drill? Have you ever fished wire down the inside of a wall? Do you feel uncomfortable with the thought of drilling a hole through the side of your house? If you are will to just do it, someone here will answer your questions. Each install is really a custom job and we don't know what kind of house you have so the more detailed questions the better.

Its funny that you live in Las Vegas because I am just about to dump directv for digital cable. I looked into the pricing and its about dead even (with Cox). The thing that really sucks about directv is when something goes wrong with the receiver, you either wait a few weeks without tv or you buy a new one at an inflated price (no first time deal). The same is true if you want to upgrade your receiver, while the cable company will replace it for you for free. I just think Directv leaves the consumer high and dry once they have your business.
