I'm new to the "true" home theater arena. As a novice installer, which receiver will I get the best bang for my buck and not get totally frustrated during installation and calibration. I'm also not planning to upgrade after this for many years.

I can get the 3803 for $698.06, but is it $300 better than the Onkyo 601 or a Harmon? Please advise.

Your referring to the 6th ave deal right? The 3803 is a great deal for that price. It really depends on your budget, the type of speakers your driving, and size of the room. The 601 might be enough power wise. The 3803 really destroys the 601 in every area but it should for double the MSRP. Better DACs, better sorround processing system, more power etc etc.

The 3803 is a very high end receiever.

The Onkyo SR601 is considered a more mid level even entry level by many.

Check out the Yamaha RXV-1400 and 2400. Both have the YPAO feature which automatically calibrates. They also have comp. video upconversion. Pretty good units. around $800 and $1k list...
