Anthony, the trick that worked for me was to memorize a certain pattern for each limb until I could play it rote, without thinking about it. Then it's just a simple matter of combining them. Your limbs will be working automatically, so you won't even be realizing exactly what you're playing. It's like this: find a basic beat involving all your limbs (or just 3 if you like) and play it until you don't have to think about it anymore...it'll be automatic. Then, change the pattern that only one limb is playing. Your other 3 (or 2) limbs will still be playing the previous pattern. Keep doing this until you're comfortable with the new pattern, and then change the pattern of another limb.
You may want to look into a book by Gary Chester called "The New Breed". Gary broke this kind of thing down into a fine science, and it's really a great book...easy enough for a semi-beginner, yet it offers enough depth to keep seasoned pros working for a while
