Just some info on an upcoming release from Infinity Entertainment Group I thought you might be interested in:

Title: Route 66: Producer’s Picks (2 Discs)
Genre: Classic TV/Drama
Running Time: Approx. 9 Hours, 20 Minutes (11 Episodes/54 Minutes Each)
Street Date: February 10, 2009

Shift the new year into high gear with the ultimate road trip—right in your living room! Featuring 11 star-studded episodes from one of television’s most pivotal classic dramas, Route 66: Producer’s Picks revs onto DVD Feb. 10 from Infinity Entertainment Group.

Route 66 (1960-64), an edgy anthology of downbeat character studies and psychological dramas, was one of the most brilliant and highly rated television series of the era. The original “road trip” adventure – shot entirely on location with top-drawer writing, intriguing characters and stellar guest star appearances – it established the Corvette as an American icon.

Traversing the famed Route 66, stretching from Chicago, Ill., to Santa Monica, Calif., Yale graduate Tod Stiles (Martin Milner) and Buz Murdock (George Maharis) encounter a myriad of loners, dreamers and outsiders, portrayed by an array of Hollywood’s biggest stars early in their careers. Appearing are: Alan Alda, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., Peter Lorre, Suzanne Pleshette, James Caan, Stefanie Powers, Robert Duvall, Walter Matthau, Martin Sheen, Ronny Howard, Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen, Robert Redford and Tom Bosley, among others.

Included are the episodes: Play It Glissando (Jack Lord, Barbara Bostock), Eleven, the Hard Way (Walter Matthau), First Class Mouliak (Robert Redford, Martin Balsam), The Strengthening Angels (Suzanne Pleshette, Harry Townes), Birdcage on My Foot (Robert Duvall, Diana Millay), And the Cat Jumped Over the Moon (James Caan, Martin Sheen), You Never Had it so Good (Peter Graves, Patricia Barry), Lizard’s Leg and Owlet’s Wing (Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, Lon Chaney, Jr.), Poor Little Kangaroo Rat (Leslie Nielsen, Ronny Howard), Soda Pop and Paper Flags (Alan Alda, Tom Bosley, Joseph Campanella) and A Cage in Search of a Bird (Stefanie Powers, Dan Duryea).

Route 66: Producer’s Picks are digitally remastered from 35mm with the original aspect ratio of 4:3 (1.33:1) to preserve the program as closely as possible while maximizing picture and audio quality

Dave, welcome to the forum. The "Route 66 Producer's Picks" appears to be a reissue of a set that Roxbury Entertainment issued to "test the waters" prior to its distribution deal with Infinity Entertainment. The original set was, apparently, only available at Amazon and was discontinued once Infinity began to release the series.

Amazon.com: Best of Route 66 - Eleven Original TV Series episodes: Robert Redford; Robert Duvall; James Caan; Alan Alda;Stephanie Powers; Suzanne Pleshette; Boris Karloff; Peter Lorie; Walter Matthau; Martin Sheen; Leslie Nielsen; Ronny Howard; Edwar

While I suppose this release has its place, I really would have preferred to see season 3 released (in its entirety like seasons 1 & 2) in February rather than in June (and only a volume 1 at that). This "Producer's Picks" set would be a good introduction to the series for anyone who's not familiar with "Route 66" as it has highlight episodes from across the entire series, but a lot of the folks here at HTF want "the whole enchilada."
