Smetana "My Country"
Is this referring to the Czech composer? I remember listening to his music a long time ago, but can't say I heard that piece.

I don't know if this thread makes sense- after all, if an album isn't famous and renowned, then it can't really be a classic, right?

Respighi's Vetrate de chiesa (Church Windows) symphonic poem, as performed by Eugene Ormandy leading (who else?) the Philadelphia Orchestra. The tone poem itself is lavish and spine-tingling, even if somewhat lowbrow, featuring as it does lush orchestration and a "gee-wow" organ crescendo in the final movement. And Eugene Ormandy's marvelous reading with this near-perfect ensemble is hampered only by the awful multiple-microphone, overly compressed dynamics of orchestral tape recordings made by CBS's engineers at the time. The performance transcends the recording's technical limits, however. I cannot recommend this recording highly enough. (I prefer this to the composer's much-overplayed Pines of Rome.)

Louisiana's Le Roux, me and Joel F. are the only ones 'round these parts, maybe anywhere this side of Baton Rouge, that remember these splendid gumbo rockers.

Crack the Sky's self-titled debut from 1975 which was completely ignored because of zero promotion by its label, Lifesong, even though Rolling Stone Magazine named it Album of the Year.
More recently, Marillion's Anoraknophobia from a couple of years ago sputtered in the sales department while getting good reviews. It's simply one of the best albums I've heard in 15 or 20 years.

Jesus, I thought I was the only person around here who felt that way. I honestly don't understand why it's not more popular.

Yep. Another good one! John Palumbo and company. I remember playing "Robots For Ronnie" way back when... when I worked in radio.
