It is Steve’s tourney of course, but;
The Red Shoes (if that's okay, it's english language, but British made)
, I think that English speaking, but not made in the States films like The Third Man have already been excluded.

I think that Holiday is a comedy (with some dramatic overtones—but also with some screwball ones as well) and would not qualify. I’d put Dinner at Eight in the same category (comedy) as well, though to be sure it has a substantially more dramatic bent than does Holiday.

List updated.

I tossed The Red Shoes, Shadows, Holiday, and Dinner at Eight. Sorry. :)

I'm still debating White Heat, The Stranger, The Enemy Below, Public Enemy, The Killing, and Attack. I think they just fit, but I'd like to have your opinion on 'em.

We're getting close - we're up to 57.

I went ahead and threw in a few nominations myself - hopefully they'll get in...

Third Dodsworth and I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang.

Second Little Women, The Informer, Grand Hotel, Captains Courageous and Of Mice and Men (would've also seconded On the Beach were it not for the auto race and some jaw-droppingly inappropriate use of music toward the end).

Nominate The Petrified Forest, Pinocchio and Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (comedy is an element, yes, but not much more so than in Rear Window or Stalag 17 [to use two locked-in examples]).

Well since most of these are my nominations:

I originally held off my picks because I was thinking you were going for straight up melodrama. After seeing some of the other films getting in I didn't think these were any different.

My opinion is Drama can cover other genres.

If Public Enemy isn't a Drama then neither is The Godfather.

12 O'Clock High, All Quiet on the Western Front, Paths of Glory, Stalag 17, etc. are all in then why not Enemy Below (comparable to Das Boot) or Attack (an examination of cowardice & betrayal during world war II). Besides I'm probably one of the only people here who's seen Attack so I'll be shocked if it gets seconded anyway.

The Killing is a crime/suspense/noir film. If it doesn't belong then in all fairness neither do all of the Hitchcock & Noir films already in.

Its your Tournament & concept so whatever you want to do with the Noms is fine with me. :)

Okay, we have our 64! I'll have the first brackets posted in the morning. Since there are still quite a few deserving films that didn't make it in, I see no reason not to have a wild card list (either 16 or 32). If you want to go that route, unlimited seconds and thirds. :) Also, feel free to throw out a few noms if you can think of 'em.
