I have a Panasonic TC-P50VT25 tv. Am I able to disable the side power button on the actual tv? Nothing in manual and tv is out of warranty so panasonic is no help to me currently. I am desperate as my 2 year old hits it all the time to aggervate my 5 year old. Tried covering it but 2 year old is too smart for it lol

I've never heard of that feature being available on any TV.

Typically if someone wants to disable a switch, it’s bad, and they just want to make a permanent internal connection. What you’re talking about, if done, would render the TV not working.

You could plug the TV into a switched power strip. That would work until he/she finds it. :)

Wayne

I thought the OP meant the 2 year old was turning the TV off while the 5 year old was watching, but that should probably be clarified.

Not an easy way as its not intended to be disabled. You would have to take the case apart and move the little circuit board that has the power/input/volume buttons on it so the plastic button doesn't make contact. Could you maybe get a large metal washer that surrounds it covered by a piece of thick cardboard so touching the cardboard won't hit the button?

I remember those days. The 2yo just wanted teh 5yo to play with them.

First thought was a shock collar with proximity sensor, but quickly dismissed that one since it the shock was in process with he/she touch the set it might hurt the TV.

The thought along the same lines -- motion detector and airhorn or compressed air can to provide a bit of a Finger Wag, but figured some 2yo's might actually enjoy that too much.

A Popup monster that jumps out when the finger touches the Off Switch -- figured it might take 3 or 4 times before the shock value actually wears off

Unfortunately unless you can figure out a method like Adam suggest to physically blocked the button I'm not sure of an easy solution without damaging the set.
