Well got this today. Love the film. Have had the r1 since it came out and was waiting for a SpEd.................and it's a good one. Before anybody starts I know that the next r1 will be a 3 disc as well as the French (I think) version that is out in October. Both will have the documentary about the raid which was on the Descovery Channel, which lasts an hour and a half. The is another feature length doc on it as well, although I am not too sure what the subject of it is..........maybe about how the conflict in Somilia came about.
........anyway..........
The R2 version.
Now there seems to be some extras mising on this.
Here is a list of extras that were on the r2-project.

there are 8 I belive you can see. Most notable are the alterante opening and ending.
now dont get me wrong this is a great selection of extras. But I love seeing how a film is marketed and thought the trailers for this movie were terrific, so I was a bit annoyed they were'nt on it.
But for me (as a fan of movie photography) I was really looking forward to the Camera and lens tests featurette. As well as the Mark Bowden interview. I suspect these will appear in the 3 disc version (so looks like i'm buying this movie for a 3rd time).
Now I have only looked at two of the extras on this. The Hymn to the fallen: Film Score and Digital Warriors: Visual effects featurettes. Both of which are great. To be honest all the extras on this disc (i've skimmed through and will post up full reviews of each when I get the time) are not filler. Well put together and very informative, especially the digital warriors doc.
Well that was the extras disc......so how does disc 1 stand up against the extras bare r1 version.
The picture was identical to the r1. Excellent, great detail, colours and deep blacks. Film grain is there in certain shots. But it is the style. So as a representation of the original print, this is a winner. Some people may dissagree, but I think that if the picture quality represents it original form then it is a dead on transfer. For the record I saw no shimmering of fine details such as grills on the hummvies. Edge enhancement you say.......sorry could'nt see any at all, very clean picture.
Plus it has the theatrical burnt in subs. To which the r1 had ugly yellow ones that went over the lower black bar, just a bad move doing that.
Plus I thought the sound was better defined on this one. Better surrounds and bass. It sounded alot more open with the various gun battles in the streets. I also noticed when super 61 (the first BlackHawk) gets shot down and hits the ground, more detail with debri in the rears. I had this up loud I have to say. Reference level on my amp is -30db.......I had it at -20
L O U D. Hans Zimmers score (along with Lisa gerrards vocals) spread through out all five channels and really surrounded you, great stuff and a reference 5.1 track..........now if only I could get a bigger room so I can put ibn that centre rear. I had the amp in THX 5.1 mode for this as always.
Might take a look at one of the commentaries tonight.
cant wait to hear Ridleys comments on this one.
