Windows Media Player, itunes, Winamp, Realplayer etc.

Which player and configuration (add-ons) gives the best sound in your opinion?

Most players produce identical sound unless you use digital signal processing such as equalization, dynamic range compression, volume leveling or "enhancement" effects.

foobar2000 with Kernel Streaming...

I just got the Chaintech AV-710 ($19.98 CAD!!!) with the Wolfson upsampling DAC, sounds AMAZING with my Koss Portapros...

google the chaintech card, and check out the thread over at Head-fi... lots of good info there

I have tested most all and if your sound card supports ASIO playback then by far J River Media Center is the best. In fact it is the only way I will listen to music from my PC.

Digital is digital. As long as it's bypassing kmixer it's the same.

I use what Nick's using but with an M-Audio Revo (no upsampling). Here's some light reading if you're bored.
