Based on all of the recommendations here and in magazines, I finally picked up Beck's "Sea Change" SACD today along with Outkast's "Stankonia" and Nickel Creek's debut (I know, a very strange music shopping experience). What type of environment do you suggest for my first listen?

A cool, dry space; preferably indoors.

I figured that by writing "environment", I'd get some interesting replies!

For Sea Change, I would recommend breaking up with your significant other, getting ever-so-slightly plastered, and then cranking up the volume in a darkened room [IMG]

So, to say that it's a "moody" album is an understatement?

Yes, a moody little tone-poem, but ultimately quite transcendent. "Little One" is sorta the emotional climax, before the dour-yet-oddly-hopeful "Side of the Road".

Get dark with this one. And alone. Use it when you scrape bottom. Get mired in it. And then let it release you.
