BTW, as to the question about the comb filter: the one in the 704 is reputed to be excellent. If you want to compare, I think you can hook it up via composite to see the player's filter, and via SVideo to see the TV's filter.
As to the crazy question, I've been an LD junkie since 1991, and I've spent STUPID amounts of money on stuff -- $210 CDN for the Star Wars THX faces discs the day they hit the street, $170 CDN for the Criterion CAV Brazil, $150 CDN for the CAV Pinocchio set...don't feel so bad, I have 300 LDs, and it scares the hell out of me to think that I could own a house if I had saved all that money for the past decade.
But I have no regrets, especially now that I finally have an amp that shows off just how glorious PCM audio on LD really is.
