Anyone using a DAC ? (1 Viewer)

I was looking to upgrade the sound of my CD player (old Sony 5 disc changer) and was wondering how many people use DAC's. I was thinking of buying a new CD player such as Tjoeb 4000, Arcam CD72 or Cambridge D500SE. The other option was to buy a DAC and connect it to the optical out on the old Sony. If I buy a DAC, I would like to stay under $400 and have been shopping the used market. Some of the units I've been researching are MSB's, Aragon, Channel Islands and California Audio to name a few. My stereo listening consists of a Aragon 4004 MKII driving Energy C6's using a B&K AVR202 as a pre/pro. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
