Anyone have a Philips DVD-953. Is it worth buying if it's on sale? (1 Viewer)

A local store have this model on sale. I haven't heard any review of Philips models and there wasn't a review available at audioreview.com. Can anyone help?

I recently purchased this model and connected to a Toshiba 61hx70. Picture looks good. Remote is not backlit. Lower buttons on remote and writing are small. Watching a 4:3 movie is fine, but a letterbox movie with player set to TV aspect of 4:3 letterbox, progressive scan, component connection, has intermittent problems. While watching the movie it will freeze on the TV and the counter on the player also freezes. About 10 sec. later it resumes but you lose the 10 secs. and the counter jumps up. Setting at 16:9 aspect does not have this problem but everyone is too tall for my taste. I exchanged the unit with identical results.
