What's new

Any chance of older Miramax DVD's being updated? (1 Viewer)

I would love to get my hands on new transfers of "Grosse Pointe Blank", "Monument Avenue", "Beautiful Girls", "Good Will Hunting", etc. Now that the Weinsteins are not with Miramax, do you think that some of their movies will fall by the wayside? I'm not familiar with the way these things are handled, but it seems like whoever is running Miramax these days probably won't be too concerned with updating older DVD's.

Well, GROSSE POINT BLANK is a full-on Disney production, not a Miramax film, and MONUMENT AVENUE is actually a Lionsgate film that Miramax picked up the DVD rights to. So on the former, I would say that it may very well get a new DVD, but the latter may have to revert to Lionsgate first before we see a new disc. (Plus, the death of director Ted Demme puts a crimp in creating new supplements)

As for the other Miramax titles, who knows? Curiously, Genius released new discs of CINEMA PARADISO and THE THIEF AND THE COBBLER, Miramax titles which somehow the brothers Weinstein were able to take with them. I wonder how many others may pop up on that label instead of with Disney.

The new "Thief" DVD was exactly the same as the Miramax label DVD (pan & scan, VHS master, edited). Isn't Cinema Paradiso the same as the older DVD-18 except it's now two DVD-9s plus a soundtrack CD?

Now that Mia Kirshner is famous from the L Word (and for some, from 24), a special edition of Exotica would be nice.

Nope. It's now got commentary, and two featurettes.

Personally, I'd like to see them release an uncut version of Malena, which is available is other regions.

The Weinsteins are going to re-release their HK movies with the unedited and original language versions. So they aren't entirely opposed to the idea of double-dips. At least that's some hope for other stuff, right?

I'm still waiting for an anamorphic release of "The Mighty." Thankfully I'm not holding my breath for it.

I'd go for an anamorphic Halloween: H20. The current disc is pretty blah.

Can't help you on the others, but the Canadian Alliance Atlantis version of Good Will Hunting is anamorphic, and not a bad transfer.

How about a version of Pulp Fiction that is not overly compressed and rotten with EE?

That would be nice.

I would also like to see anamorphic versions of "From Dusk til Dawn", "Highlander: The Final Dimension", and "The Faculty".
