Max:

I wonder if we have some sort of latex allergy? I still have the sore throat this morning.
Do you have problems with blowing up ballons and have sores on you mouth afterwards? Can you eat Kiwi fruit without breaking out in a rash? Have you tried putting on a pair of surgical gloves to find out and see if your hands break out?

Latex allergies are on the rise in the US due to all of the tire particles in the air we breath. We are finding more and more people that have latex allergies when they are admitted to the hospital. If any of the above applies to you or if you might think that you have a latex allergy I wouldn't hesitate to discuss this with you personal physician and find out for sure. Because if you do have a latex allergy you need to let any health care worker that you would visit like in the hospital or even the dentist's office that you have a latex allergy.

Julie and Max:

If your symptoms do not improve by the end of the day I would definitely check in with your doctor and let him/her know.

(We now take you back to our regular discussion in this thread.)

Wow. I feel like watching Safe after reading about latex allergies.
hope you guys feel better. I won't be getting this disc. :)
As for Requiem for a Dream, the sex toy scene IS the single scene that gave the film an NC17 rating. Aronofsky confirms that in many an interview.
Anyhow, the rating system is flawed. In reality, ROD should have received an R rating. NC17 was created to replace the X rating. When a film is given an NC17 rating, many large theater chains equate the film with porno and won't carry it. Now, if ROD on the same level as, say, Debbie Does Dallas? No.
Does the final film by Stanley Kubrick deserve an NC17? Its what caused WB to digitally mask it for the American prudish consumer market. (BTW, if you never say the difference between the masked and unmasked versions of Eyes Wide Shut, check out my site on the matter - GRAPHIC MATERIAL, BE WARNED - http://www.indelibleinc.com/kubrick/...ews/ewsedited/)

I don't have a latex allergy, at least I was fine a couple of weeks ago when I used some latex gloves, but I do have a sensitivity to many types of odors. Perfumes give me a sore throat and sometimes a headache and ill feeling. Certain paints and glazes can do the same thing.

I thouhgt it smelled like a powerfull paint cleaner that I have in the basement. At any rate by the time I got done flipping through the pages in the book my nose would not stop running and I was blowing snot everywhere with some big sneezes. Sort of like my own zombie gore, without the blood :D Even today when I got up my nose is still running a bit :frowning: The worst part is that I let it air out for about 8 hours in my car before I even looked at it. It sucks to be me, I am way too senitive to most things, I can't be around cigeratte smoke or be anywhere near the perfume counter at Sears. Maybe Anchor Bay should have put warning stickers on the case "Warning stinky packing that may cause alergic reactions". Or better yet package it with the first official Evil Dead gas mask ;) At least it looks cool and snot wipes easily off the cover...

Even with the nasty paint thinner smell this has got to be the coolest and creepiest packaging I have ever seen for a DVD.I only wish it was made to hold all 3 movies in the trilogy but one can dream.:emoji_thumbsup:

My copy arrived yesterday from Amazon, wow what a disc. The packaging is the best ever! The smell does go away after a while.

Patrick: It's amazing... you can kill dozens of people graphically, and you're find with an 'R' but god forbid you have some '69, anal, or group sex. Cause, you know, that's so much worse than people getting murdered:rolleyes. And I doubt there are many teenagers who haven't seen in some form, or atleast less heard about, the acts contained in those photographs... We're living in an internet age, now.

Interestingly I had a similar reaction to the Book of the Dead as Andrew. I went to Future Shop on Sunday to pick up my copy of Evil Dead. Shortly after midnight I started getting the sneezing. By morning I had also become a fountain of snot. What is strangest about this phenomena is that street date for this release was Tuesday, March 5.
When I went to the Future Shop to make my purchase I actually came home empty handed. Imagine... the smell is so bad you actually take ill 2 days before purchasing it. I am now the proud owner of the Book of the Dead... and after smelling the book I have not experienced any new symptoms beyond those of the common cold that I picked up late Sunday night.

Now that's frickin' weird. Just got done reading this thread and then went to catch the end of Law and Order. What are they talking about - a kid with an allergy to latex.

Now that coincidence is more scary that the Evil Dead movie.

BATTLEFIELD EARTH may stink, but boy is it one value-packed DVD considering the entertainment value it gives back to the viewer.

The commentary is a hoot, and together with the documentaries it looks like everyone involved was sure that they were creating the next "Space Opera" franchise akin to STAR WARS.

The movie itself is cheeze whiz to the highest degree, and is so awful as to bring serious guffaws to anyone who watches it sober, but even moreso when intoxicated.

I madeta cardborad cut-out of vthe MST3K gang, and put it at the bootom of the screen when I watch it. All viewers are then invited to play "MST3K the Home Game" with this heckle fodder.

I too thought the cover was, well a bit "stinky". I found a good way to get arround it though (Helps if you can lock you filing cabnet).
Leave the disc at work for a couple of days. THe more co-workers you have, the faster all those fumes will get breathed in!:D
Got to admit, I like the transfer. Having never scene the other transfers, I am happy with this, even if it does show the "quality" of the original stock.

OK, who has a cover scan so I can put my BOD back in the plastic and keep it out of harms way?
It could either be of the BOD (don't know how well that would come out) or this one for the non-BOD version:

UPDATE:
Well I found a BOD scan here :http://www.dvdcoverart.com/evildead_bod.htm
Looks like an excellent scan/site.
Just figured I post it for any one else looking.
Now if I could find one for the non-BOD version, as if any one would buy that one.:D

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A mystery illness has overcome at least 100 guests who attended a pre-Oscar ceremony honoring scientific and technical achievement last weekend, public health officials said Thursday.
...
County epidemiologists were examining everything from the fish and beef on the menu to the desserts and wine. Investigators were also collecting stool samples from sickened individuals to determine the nature of the disorder.
Hmm...maybe they were giving Sam Raimi a lifetime achievement award and had a few extra copies of the new BotD DVD lying around?
