In the interest of encouraging actual discussion and discouraging the encroachment of social media mindless inanity, I suggest that there be a ban on posts that consist solely or primarily of an animated gif or any other kind of meme. A comprehensive prohibition would be even better.

As someone who uses social media, I completely understand your position.

That being said, I hesitate to consider a new rule that would restrict the occasional usage of gifs in posts.

If its usage here was a huge problem I would absolutely agree that something would need to be done. However, I don't want us to try and fix something that isn't yet broken.

And as someone who has used a gif as a response myself, I see it only being done under extraordinary circumstances to amplify a point. Sometimes it even can add a little bit of humor to the thread.
