And why Creep for Radiohead? That song is certainly not reflective of their body of work. I stick by Paranoid Android.
I certainly agree that "Creep" is not reflective of all of Radiohead's work. However, I pictured the concept of a "signature song" here as something that people IN GENERAL will always identify a band by. Radiohead's music has become more experimental and less of a "radio friendly" style. I'm not saying this is a good thing. "Paranoid Android" is certainly a breakthrough for the band and their most recognizable song of their newer style, but I contend - for now - that "Creep" is still more of a signature tune until a few more years perspective gives us the ultimate overview of the band's legacy.

By the way, this is going to be a problem for a lot of bands we could bring up here. A band like Radiohead is going to be remembered as influential and unique in their evolution in sound. But what is the general public going to think? It's like I said about Talking Heads. They've done an immensely diverse and interesting body of work, however most people are going to remember something really lame (IMHO) like "Burning Down The House," because it was a hit.

Before "Burning Down the House", the Heads obvious signature song was "Once in a Lifetime".

I agree that Radioheads sig song is "Creep", unfortunately. An artist's most popularly recognized song may not be representive of their overall work. As I stated, Blondie's "Rapture" is probably their sig song, although it clearly isn't their best.

The same with Ween. People hardly know them from anything other than that "Push the Little Daisies" song, whatever the proper title is. To date, that's the only one I know of that's got popular airplay.

Actually, it's pretty tough. Pick one...
Heart of Glass
Rapture
Call Me
One Way or Another
Dreaming
The Tide is High
Hard, ain't it? ;) You're probably right there Kevin, now that I think about it. Heart of Glass is more their sig than Rapture. I just remember how popular Rapture was when it came out, but it doesn't have the "staying" power that Heart of Glass does. Then again, I think Heart of Glass would have to compete with Call Me for top honors. Damn, I think I need to drag out my Platinum Collection cd. :)

Ah, another choice I'll have to dispute. I'd say "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" will be Rod's signature tune; it'll probably haunt him long after his death. Hell, it'll probably haunt his grandchildren long after their deaths. :)
Here's a few more:
The Flaming Lips - "She Don't Use Jelly"
Jane's Addiction - "Been Caught Stealing"
Lou Reed - "Walk on the Wild Side"

Fellas, I think we're all right! My selection of "All Day and All of the Night" wasn't an easy one to make; I did an eenie-meenie-minie-moe betwen that and "Lola" and "You Really Got Me." I should've just listed a three-way tie. :)
