We finally got the bats awakened at Busch Stadium last night. Kolten Wong went yard with a grand slam, Peter Bourjos smacked one out and our young phenom Oscar Taveras got a base hit. Oscar got a home run in his 2nd at bat in the majors Saturday. As for last night, after the bats awoke, the bullpen blew the game! Sheesh! How can you let the AAA Royals beat you?

I understand Red Sox fans having a hard on for Price. But, with that said, I thought that Carp pitch was by accident.
Oh, I don't know. . .The go-ahead run is on second with first base open and two out, the sorry remains of Grady Sizemore are on deck, and a fastball just happens to get away from maybe the single best control pitcher in baseball?

If it quacks like a duck. . . ;)

I would post a retort, but it's time to put that game to rest, at least, till the next time these two teams play.

Definitely needs to be suspended. A nice 10 gamer would be about right.

Right now he is a danger to others around him. As bad as his bat throwing was it pales in comparison to his hitting of the catcher. Deliberately hitting the catcher twice like that is simply unacceptable.

Tony Gwynn.

Lifetime .338!

Eight times led the NL in batting average.

In the strike-shortened 1994, he finished the season batting .394.

Led the NL in # of hits seven times.

In 1997, at the age of 37, he batted .372 with 220 hits. He only struck out 28 times that season.

Tied for 18th on the career BA list (with Napoleon Lajoie).

A great, great hitter. One of the game's best ever.

Mike,

Seeing a player mentioned with the name of Nap. Lajoie in the same post is quite amazing in and of itself. And one more thing. He faced Maddux at least 100 times -- and never struck out against him!

Tomorrow is trip to Miami attempt #2.Last month we were set for a drive down to see the Phils play in Miami. Unfortunately my 97 year old grandfather passed away. Tomorrow we go to the game then Wednesday morning I fly back to Philly againfor my grandmother's funeral. She was 95 and didn't like not having him around so she stopped eating and now she is with him. Ok,baseball. So game tomorrow and today my dad who was at the Jersey Shore, Wildwood bumped into former Phil Darren Daulton. Daulton recently had major brain surgery to remove cancer and seems to be doing well.
