I am getting 2260$ credit for a tv thru HH Gregg. is it worth it to get a 1080p vs 1080i or 720p? What would you all get? My 1080i toshiba light engine is going bad so Im getting credit for it because they cant find the engine for it. So is is worth it to go 1080p and I will also either get the a30 or a35 hddvd player to go with the 1080p.

Non-CRT HDTV's are all either 720p (768p is essentially the same) or 1080p. They all accept 1080i.

If you go with 1080, be sure it has a 1080p HDMI/HDCP input so you can bypass the innards if better 1080p processing from outside (for example in a receiver) becomes available or you become dissatisfied with the way the TV handles the video signal.

I would say that the only reason not to go with 1080 is if you would rather spend less money.

Is it really worth it to spend alot more for 1080p? Some say its not that big of a veiwing difference but I think I can see the difference.

It really depends on screen size and viewing distance. The further back you sit, the less of an advantage 1080p has because after a certain distance the resolution advantage is negated. Here's a chart:

http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html

Notice for a 60" screen, the benefits of 1080p don't even start to become noticable until around 11ft, and the sweet spot is around 9ft. Since the viewing distance is often times dictated by decor and room layout, if you consider your budget, prefered type of display, and any brand loyalty you have, you can utilize the chart to pick an appropriate model. At the price and viewing distance you have set for yourself, it just may be that a 720p is all you need.
