Now that I've been pointed in the right direction in the amp department I'm ready to move on. Since this is my first DIY project, I don't have a list of materials to go by. Is there anything else I will need besides an enclosure, the driver, the amp, the polyfill, the wiring and the ports?
I'm going to try my hand at building a DIY sub. My plan is to make a Tempest in an Alignment setup. I don't want to spend a lot on an amp so I am thinking about using the Parts Express #300-792 156-watt amp. Would this amp be suitable for use with this kind of configuration? I'll get the...
I'm in the market to buy a new DVD player. I've had just about all I can take with my Philips. I don't have component video inputs on my TV so a progressive player would be a waste of money. I have my sights set on a Panasonic DVD-CV51. It's been out for a while though, so has a better...
Since I wired my front L/R's through the sub (powered) they sound incredible. I've gotten deeper, sharper and crisper bass response, plus more clarity from the mains themselves. Is it possible to have a sub generate the same or at least a noticeable effect on the surrounds when wired the same way?
What exactly do integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers, and amplifiers do? I don't quite understand their purpose in home theatre systems. Are they really necessary for standard 5.1 systems?
I am faced with three problems.
Number One: My speakers do not have square or rectangular bases. They are shaped like a flowerpot only with the sides and top rounded out slightly. The side that would be the bottom of the pot is rounded in slightly.
Number Two: The area in the middle of the...
I wouldn't trust running over the recommended weight on brackets, no matter what they're made of. Having the speakers come down without warning would be a tragedy. If it works though, more power to you.
I would definitely need a mount that can support a lot of weight. My speakers are pretty hefty; I'd say at least 21 pounds. The BT-1 looks like a good candidate. Most mounts at Parts Express that support heavier loads are limited in movement and are expensive. Thanks for the links, Brett.
My room is just too small to accommodate all four speakers in equal-distant positions. I could probably fit the front L/R's on each side of my TV stand but the rears have to go higher. I like the idea of mounts that can be aimed to certain points in the room. Can someone recommend a good type?
I need to elevate my front speakers and rear surround speakers to ceiling level. What is the best position for them there? It's a one shot deal so I need to get it right the first time. I'm thinking angled in the corner and aimed to the center of the floor but perhaps there's a better way?
I'll stay with coax. What is the difference between coaxial and optical? My receiver has inputs for both.

I'm using a coaxial audio cable between my DVD player and receiver because it's either that or standard L/R analog outputs. My receiver has a set of 5.1 analog inputs that have been of interest to me ever since I got it. Am I missing much?
I've been having audio skipping problems on Terminator 2 in both DTS and 5.1 modes. What happens is, at certain points in the movie, always when a camera angle changes, the audio skips briefly. Although it's only a word or two, it gets annoying. The digital surround/surround indicator and...
