My wants list is relatively short:

Taking Off (Forman)
One Eyed Jacks (Brando) (to finally rescue it from public domain hell)
Far From The Madding Crowd (Schlesinger)
Reflections In A Golden Eye (Huston) (in natural colour this time please!)
Face To Face (Bergman) (hopefully to be done by Criterion)
Tristana (Bunuel) (hopefully to be done by Criterion)
Boy (Oshima)

This year has seen many of my most pressing wants released, so I hope 2008 will be just as good.

Some of the above, plus

The Boetticher/Scott westerns.
Columbia's remaining Hammer films.
Box sets from Warners; Westerns, Robert Taylor, John Garfield, a Cinerama collection with a 'How The West Was Won' UCE at it's heart.
Paramount films via Criterion; 'The Parallax View', 'Looking For Mr Goodbar', 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance', 'Three Days of The Condor'.
A London Films / Korda Eclipse set (at the very least) from Criterion, plus more Ealing from them, especially a restored 'The Titfield Thunderbolt'. And for Criterion to have a change of heart and release 'The Dead'.
'The Strawberry Blonde'.
'The Big Sleep' UCE.
A nice big fat SE of 'A Matter of Life and Death'.
'Red River' CE.
'Heaven's Gate' SE
'The Alamo', restored roadshow version.
A Frank Borzage at Fox Collection, similar to the Ford set, plus, whoever holds the rights, get your fngers out and release 'The Rising of The Moon', 'Gideon's Day', '7 Women', 'The Fugitive'. And please, please, please, anyone give 'The Quiet Man' the respect it deserves.
A proper CE of Spielberg's '1941'.
'Northwest Passage'.
SEs of 'The King of Marvin Gardens' and 'Five Easy Pieces'
More pre-code from every studio.

...for starters.
So many films, so little time...

THE LAND UNKNOWN is part of Universal's second sci-fi set, a Best Buy exclusive. Wasn't a legit REPULSION due from Sony this month? TARAS BULBA is scheduled for March release.

My three most wanted are:

The Crowd (1928)
Bachelor Mother (1939)
Dreamchild (1985)

"And now the reprimand, from an American critic. He reproaches me for using film as a sacred & lasting medium, like a painting or a book. He does not believe that filmmaking is an inferior art, but he believes, and quite rightly, that a reel goes quickly, that the public are looking above all for relaxation, that film is fragile and that it is pretentious to express the power of one's soul by such ephemeral and delicate means, that Charlie Chaplin's or Buster Keaton's first films can only be seen on very rare and badly spoiled prints. I add that the cinema is making daily progress and that eventually films that we consider marvelous today will soon be forgotten because of new dimensions & colour. This is true. But for 4 weeks this film [The Blood of a Poet] has been shown to audiences that have been so attentive, so eager & so warm, that I wonder after all there is not an anonymous public who are looking for more than relaxation in the cinema." - Jean Cocteau, 1932

Nope, that supposed December 3rd release date was a false alarm. Subsequently, Ron Epstein or someone else here said something about REPULSION perhaps coming sometime in 2008, but that appears to be in the realm of rumor, at this stage; the film remains on my wishlist until I see an official release announcement from Sony.

That is correct about it being just a rumor. Maybe, next year.Posted Image

A pity that a thing of such exquisite beauty and logic must now go bye-bye, but if the warden don't like it, and since I have sledgehammer in hand anyway...

***WHAM!***

Video killed the cinema star.
