Hello there! Im a new homeowner and trying to fill my house with objects, instead of empty space. I thought the home theatr system would be a good idea considering I love my movie and TV watching experience! I dont really know much about this stuff, so any advice is just fantastic! I'm not made of money, so the budget for the full home theatr area should be capped near $1000. I decided to start with the speakers, and build up from there... I did some research and whatnot, and i found this set here: Onkyo HT-S3400 5.1-Channel Home Theater System - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004O0TRDI Is this a good bang for my buck, while keeping in mind my total budget? Amy

Amy, is the budget for the TV and BD/DVD as well? $1000 is a decent budget for speakers and receiver. Add the TV and other components and that is pretty tight... You can do better than the Onkyo speakers. Once we know what the budget includes we can make some recommendations.

I am assuming he has nothing to begin with. So with $1000, you can probably build a HT with the followings $100 Blu Ray Player (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=blue+ray+player) $200 Onkyo/Yamaha Receiver (http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR309-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B004O0TRCE/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1326762634&sr=1-3) $200 Onkyo Speakers (http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-SKS-HT540-Channel-Theater-Speaker/dp/B000GU78Z4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1326762704&sr=1-1) $50 HDMI cables and what not (monoprice.com) That leaves you with $450 for the TV. For us to help you better, you need to give us exactly what you need and what size tv you want etc.
