What I like is the much more lyrical approach that Barenboim takes. He really pushes it to the limit. It becomes abundantly obvious when the tympani chime in a couple minutes into the piece.The first thing I noticed is Barenboim's is a semitone higher. Hogwood's "Allegretto" (112-120bpm) is also too fast - more like Allegro (120-168bpm - he's running ~144bpm). Barenboim is also a *tad* fast - barely (at ~126bpm).
I prefer Barenboim's interpretation, especially the slower tempo (though the strings seem to be trying to rush him a bit a couple of times in the final minutes).
