Need help with 7.1 configuration! (1 Viewer)

Ok, let's see if we can get a consensus..

There's 2 camps for the following 2 issues..

Is THIS the ideal configuration:

With the speakers proximal to the listening area?

Or is this the ideal (and if not ideal at least acceptable):

Keeping in mind the size of the room (dimensions available in the 2nd diagram I posted), the walls, etc..

Also, IF ambient sound is preferred, and you are currently using Paradigm di/biploes for surrounds in a 5.1 configuration, do you use di/bipoles as well for the rears, firing right at each other, like the 1st diagram I posted..

Or do you use direct firing monopoles, say Studio 20's even though the goal is ambient sound?

My room is very similar in size to yours and almost setup exactly like your plan. I have 2 rows and use Axiom qs8 qualdpoles for for all the surrounds. I have a 4 "side" sourounds, a left and a right for each row, and 2 rears. It sounds fantastic.

Which?

The ones with the speakers on the walls, or proximal to the listening area?

Can you sketch a diagram of the config, and the type of speaker (dipole/bipole, direct firing)?
