Agreed to a point, yes it is the coming end to "that era" of phyiscal media. But this does not to concede, of the formats eminent demise. As the size deminshes, smaller more specialised companies like Kino, Flicker Alley, Deaf Crocidile and Criterion will keep the market fed. Even the studios like Paramount, WAC and Disney will still be turning out the titles as well as offering the product in streaming form.
So does this cry out for the death of phyiscal media? I cast my vote for NO!!

That’s the end of an era. I remember being a video store kid in the 80s and the store getting their weekly new releases COD from Ingram.
It makes sense when you factor in how few retailers carry physical media anymore, limited mostly to big box and online retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, Target and Amazon. SDS, which handles most labels now besides just Warner and Universal, can ship directly to those chains district warehouses and eliminate the middleman. Ingram worked mostly with smaller retailers, especially the mom and pop video rental stores, which are pretty much gone.

All this means is there won't be as many copies of Fast X on Best Buy shelves as there are now. We'll survive. I don't buy a lot of Hollywood junk anymore anyway (by junk I mean newer stuff. I still widely support back catalog movies shot on film). There's more than one distributor in North America. The little guys like MVD is who I care about.
