F.W. Murnau - despite having several great films under his belt his death in a car wreck stopped him while still in his prime.

Buster Keaton - tough one, but I LOVE Keaton's work

Jean Renoir - Garland was talented, just not a particular favorite of mine

Gene Kelly - I agree on the idea of how amazing it would be to have a "in his prime" Kelly as Billy Flynn in Chicago. Whatever revival musicals are having would have to be doubled in power were he to rejoin us.

That was a tough set of pairings.

Buster Keaton wins 7 - 2
Jean Renoir wins 6 - 3
Gene Kelly wins 7 - 2
Lew's votes didn't count, but thankfully, the resulting winners wouldn't have changed.
It's interesting to note how some folks would've felt if Gene Kelly were in Chicago. I'd like to see it myself, but would he do something so sexually charged?
Anywho, had a wonderful past three days. Saw Elton John and Billy Joel in concert. I also got the opportunity to see Three Colors: White and Three Colors: Red. A :emoji_thumbsup: on all counts. I've posted my review of White in Expanding Horizons. I'll have Red up sometime tomorrow. The only thing I wish I did was watch Ran.
Oh well

I'm amazed Frank Capra made it, considering the atmosphere of what makes great cinema. I like him, but I wonder how his sugar-sweet films will do in this day and age.

Personally, I'd go with the Duke, Jimmy, Vincent Price and Toshior Mifune. James Stewart gives off that vibe of a likable guy.
