Another vote for Neko Case.
Oh, and Laetitia Sadier .
Edit: Of course, I forgot Astrud Gilberto. Love some of the Bossa Nova stuff Miho Hatori did too.
She's an aquired taste for many, but I fell in love with her the moment I first heard 'Fade Into You' in 1994. Since then, I've collected just about everything she has recorded which isn't enough for me.
Out of the names Ive looked up here one I picked out of the air was Neko Case "John Saw That Number" - wow! Ill have to check out some more of her music.
Ive heard so many Ive liked over the years including many Motown singers I cant remember the names of.
My brother would say Alison Krauss.
"I am in a band with a female singer"
Me too. The music is sort of punkabilly for lack of a better term.
Thanks for all the suggestions, will spend some time looking them up.
I agree with most on the list but I'll be damned if I can get into Neko Case.
Margo from the Cowboy Junkie's probably has the most powerful voice but if you listen to her on the CD's they are so poorly produced not much comes across.
I have them live on Soundstage in HD off of HDNet and its fantastic.
