Disappointing to see that the 4K will be on a BD66, since this is an action film with a running time of 2 hours, 34 minutes.

Very happy to see a music-only track, though!

Score Only Version of the Movie

This is a nice addition.

Disappointing to see that the 4K will be on a BD66, since this is an action film with a running time of 2 hours, 34 minutes.

I saw the film several times in 4K-equipped auditoriums, including a Dolby Theater, and it didn’t appear to have anything close to 4K resolution just by way of artistic choices to not present an overly sharp or detailed image. As a theoretical matter I don’t disagree with you but as a practical matter for this specific movie I’m not sure it would make that much of a difference.

@Josh Steinberg With Disney's recent embrace of finally using BD100's on Avatar: Way of Water and the Marvel and Mandalorian TV shows, it seems like a step backwards to go with a BD66 considering the running time. However, you are right, Mangold shot this digitally but tried to replicate the filmed look of the four previous films by softening the image a bit and adding anamorphic distortion to the edges of the frames in many shots.

I only got to see this once in a theater, in 2k, and it was not a well-maintained one at that - a small community one-screener operated by the Boys & Girls Club, adjacent to the town's main casino. The image was fine, but the sound was horrible, cranked up way too loud and possibly with a blown center channel speaker (likely caused by the excessive volume).

Not to mention his need to hide the digital de-aging as much as possible.

Definitely has it's weaknesses, but I found myself enjoying a surprising amount of it, especially the loopy ending. Going to hold off on picking it up for what I hope will be a five-film set. If one is not out in a year or two... yeah, I'll probably pick it up. Won't be any cheaper though, being a Disney title.

I saw all the big four summer blockbusters in one week: Oppenheimer, Barbie, Mission Impossible and this. I was tired and feeling as worn out as Harrison Ford looks like in this movie when I went in, and I was expecting to hate it. The reviews weren't good and the audience stayed away. But to my big surprise.....I really enjoyed it! Will definitely pick this up.

I had a similar reaction to Dial. I had very low expectations given the lukewarm (at best) reviews, but when I saw it (in the theater), I loved it. I need to see it again to solidify my feelings, but I might even go so far as to say it's now my favorite of the four sequels.

Because I rewatched all of the others this year too, because some defect in my brain forces me to rank things like this, and despite such rankings sending some who disagree into fits of apoplexy, I'm gonna say:

1. Raiders (of course)
2. Dial
3. Last Crusade
4. Crystal Skull
5. Temple of Doom

Ask me some other time and I might do a swap or 2.

This comes out in a few days. Do you think I should hold out hope for a 5 movie collection? They seemed to have no problem putting out the 4-movie pack a few months ago, even tho' Disney is not known for compilation sets. Has anyone heard of an eventual 5-film collection?

Disney is not and never has been the distributor for the first four films. Paramount is. Paramount, not Disney, released the 4-film box set that is currently on the market.

Disney controls distribution for Dial of Destiny only. Any hypothetical boxed set pairing Dial with the other films would require the participation of both studios.

I have no insider information, but I don't really see any reason to believe such a thing is coming. If they were going to collaborate on a combined release, it would have made sense to release it simultaneously with the standalone Dial of Destiny release.

I’ve done a little research prior to pre-ordering, and I see Best Buy had a Steelbook. But it’s sold out. Oh well, again, I guess Best Buy didn’t want to have excess stock so close to their end of selling physical media.
