My friend and I both own products using the VPL-VW11HT projection engine (he a projector, me a Grand Wega) and we cannot figure out how to properly calibrate these devices. I have AVIA, however, the instructional videos only seem to mention CRTs. What should we do?
Thanks Brian I'll check those things. Sounds like if its the power then it should go away in a day or so. The speaker wire I'm using is Monster XP, I think that should be fairly adequate, right? Jon
Just today I was listening to my system when I began to notice a very audible (and annoying) click coming from my center speaker (something leads me to believe the tweeter). It happens on multiple sources (HD sat and DVD). It's not obnoxiously loud, but is distracting enough to detract from...
Martin,
I browse both this forum and Ars Technica, and while in their trading section I noticed a thread that you might be interested in. This guy (who I do not know) appears to be selling an RP82.

Again, I don't know him or anything...
I'd like to call dibs on the BP2004's and the LCR 2002 for $1500 for my friend (whose HTF account is pending activation). You should recieve an email from [email protected] soon.
Since they are only ~$10, I think one of us with some free time needs to buy one, build it, and post some pics. Who knows? Maybe we will discover the DLP/CRT/LCD/Plasma killer we have all been waiting for....
Or maybe we will just get a really good laugh :)
I would forget about the Pioneer completeley, as it isn't even a competetor to the two Denons listed above. Pay little attention to THX Select badging, as most recievers in the $700-$1500 price range without it can decode and handle DD-EX and DTS-ES quite niceley. Also, I know the 2802 has 27...
Being the clever, but illogical thinker that I am, I decided that it would be MUCH more economical to buy 500 ft of RG-6 and then terminate it appropriateley and use it for audio, video, coax, bnc, and basically everything. My problem is - the only thing I know how to terminate it in is threaded...
Also, both the DVD player and the DirecTV reciever should be connected to your Onkyo using either digital optical or digital coax for the best audio reproduction. NOTE: Some DirecTV recievers do not have a digital audio out. If this is the case, just use regular audio cables.
While Jack is right, I don't think you should have a problem feeding your DVD player through your reciever. The 600 has 50 mhz (might be more) component video switching bandwith. That is WAY more than one needs to pass a 480i picture to your set (I think 480i needs roughly 10-15 mhz). As far...
I recently found two old 6 disc CD changers in my basement; one by Marantz and the other by Sharp. When setting them up, I noticed that they look very similar. Being the inquisitive type, I cracked them open, and sure enough, they were identical. The only difference I can see is the DAC. The...
For some reason, it seems as if the total sound output of my Denon is not what I expected it to be. The volume dial goes from -80.0 to 12.0 and I only begin to hear sound at arround -50.0. Is this normal? I find this strange considering the reciever is capable of handling 170 watts X 7 channels...
Yes I know Gregg - believe me - if I do go through with the calibration, there is no question in my mind that I will use you (essp with all of the glowing reviews you get on this and other forums!). I just gave $350 as a rough, as I couldn't remember the exact ammount.
We recently bought a Grand Wega, and after hooking up the Hughes E86, all we can say is WOW! Prior to making the purchase, all of the negative comments about the GW made me think that I'd need calibration, but after seeing it in my home, I'm not so sure it needs it. Gregg Loewen quoted me for...
I'm not exactly getting a hum, the sound coming from the sub is normal - but the volume of it does not rise or fall when the volume knob on the reciever is adjusted. I have a Klipsch KSW-12, and it has worked fine for the past year with my old Onkyo 797. With the Onkyo, I could set the sub's...
I bought a 5803 on friday, and upon hooking it up I noticed very peculiar behavior from my sub. I have not gotten a chance to extensively test this, but it seems as if my sub's volume is fixed at a very hgh level. Adjusting the Denon's volume knob affects all speakers, excpet the sub. For...
Thanks Greg - Yes, I do remember Chip picking his up for ~3100. I acaully mentioned that I knew someone who got his 5803 for 3100 at a Tweeter in Delaware (Chip E) to my sales rep!
I just got quoted for $3500 at my local tweeter for a new 5803 as part of a package deal with some other stuff. Considering the $4300 price tag, I was pretty excited. Should I be, or should I look elsewhere for a lower price? Thanks
BTW - i second keith's idea for getting a Kenwood HTB-504 system! Those run for $500 new, and are the best kept secret in low end HT! I set up 4 of them for my clients, and they were all blown away by what this little setup can do for only $500 It has been discontinued tho - so hunt arround...
I don't see why everyone is knocking the promedia's so much - they are really not that bad. Acually - from what i can see they are just rebadged Klipsch Quintet satelites. Matej, go and get something like a denon 1802 or a H/K 225/320. Both have strong amp sections, and so long as you don't...
Thanks for all of your replies. You all confirmed my suspisions about my sub - and as such I will be replacing it with an SVS PCi 20-39 in about a week. Do you think it would be wise to keep some of my current speakers, and slowly replace them with klipsch's reference line (bookshelves only...
I see alot of comments about Klipsch Reference series speakers, but seldom hear about their Synergy line. Would anybody care to comment for or against the synergy line of mains, centers, surrounds, and subs? I ask because I own a set of Synergy speakers (SB-2 mains, SS-1 rears, SC-1 center...
