How do you start off a thread about a long running cold case/detective comedy-drama series? Shown in the UK on BBC1 and I think BBC America in the US, New Tricks is about three retired former detectives (three old codgers) and a foxy lady (their boss), who work for UCOS, working on unsolved and open cases. It stars Alun Armstrong, James Bolam, Amanda Redman and Dennis Waterman.
It started off with a feature length pilot back in 2003, and the current eighth series ends on BBC1 this Monday. No word yet on a ninth series, but it's one of the highest rated drama series on UK TV (getting between 8-9 million viewers).
It's a series which is seen as uncool, and apparently only older viewers watch the series.
The four series/seasons have been released in the US, with the fifth series/season due to be released on Tuesday 27th September. The first eight series have been released on Region 2.
If you've never seen it I probably highly recommend it. It's more to do with the characters themselves than the cases.
